The Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation’s Signature Event, the Polka Dot Trot was a 12-week virtual event with over 500 participants raising funds in support of cancer care in Newfoundland and Labrador. Presented by Johnston Insurance, the Polka Dot Trot is designed to bring cancer patients together with their friends, families and coworkers to support cancer care in the province.
The participants, donors and sponsors for the Polka Dot Trot are committed to supporting cancer care for the estimated 25,000 people currently living with cancer in our province.
According to the latest statistics, 1 in 2 Newfoundlanders and Labradorians are anticipated to be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. The Polka Dot Trot event raises funds for cancer treatment equipment and supports patient programs at the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centres across our Province.
“We are so thankful to all of our participants and sponsors for their support of our annual Polka Dot Trot for Cancer Care, says Lynette Hillier, Executive Director of the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation. Despite the challenges posed the pandemic for an in-person event, our participants embraced supporting cancer care by creating their own walk in their home community with family and friends. It was inspiring to hear all of the stories of why people joined us to fundraise in support of the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation and the cancer care that is happening right here at home.”
