Newfoundland Power’s employees, retirees and customers have generously donated 4 new blanket warmers for cancer patients receiving radiation treatment at the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre. This gift, valued at over $24,000, is a direct result of fundraising efforts for Newfoundland Power’s corporate Charity, Power of Life.

“Knowing these blanket warmers will lift the spirits of cancer patients by providing that extra warmth and comfort they need while undergoing radiation therapy means so much to our employees,” said Paige London, Vice President Finance and Chief Financial Officer, Newfoundland Power. “This time of year in particular, our thoughts go to helping others. We are proud that we have been able to enhance cancer care in our province through Power of Life and our partnership with the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation.”

In 2019-2020, there were over 28,000 patient visits for radiation therapy at the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre. These blanket warmers provide warmth and comfort to these cancer patients while they are receiving their radiation.

“We are proud to partner with Newfoundland Power, their employees, retirees and customers on this donation,” says Emily Geary, Senior Development Officer of the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation. There’s nothing as comforting as a warm blanket while undergoing cancer treatment – it may seem like such a small item but it’s the little things that can help to make a big impact on a cancer journey. We thank Newfoundland Power and the dedication of their employees for their continued commitment to enhancing the lives of those living with cancer in our province.”
