Carbonear, NL: Newfoundland Power employees in the Carbonear area are pleased to unveil a newly renovated chemotherapy unit at the Carbonear General Hospital. The much-needed upgrades were the result of a $10,000 donation on behalf of Newfoundland Power’s corporate charity, The Power of Life Project.

“This donation is the direct result of the tireless fundraising efforts of our Carbonear area employees, retirees and families”, says Jocelyn Perry, President and Chief Executive Officer, Newfoundland Power. “Enhancing cancer treatment facilities and services for the people of Newfoundland and Labrador has been an ongoing goal of The Power of Life Project.  Today we are proud to help support cancer patients in Carbonear and the surrounding area.”

Emily Geary, Senior Development Officer of the Cancer Care Foundation, says, “We are proud to join with Newfoundland Power in refurbishing the chemotherapy unit at the Carbonear General Hospital.  Cancer patients and their families spend long days in the space, and a warm and welcoming environment is truly appreciated. Our thanks to the cancer care professionals at the Carbonear General for joining with us to enhance the lives of those living with cancer in our province.”

The Power of Life Project is a partnership between Newfoundland Power and the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation. The Project raises funds for cancer treatment equipment and support programs while promoting early detection and cancer screening through education and awareness programs. Since 2002, they have donated $3 million dollars and helped many lives change for the better.

The Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation raises funds for treatment and supportive care programs for cancer patients, funds local cancer research initiatives and provides continuing education opportunities for staff of the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre and affiliated cancer programs in Newfoundland and Labrador.
